What I think happen is, people are not actually offended by it, they're just pricks in general and just want to get you banned. Especially if they're jealous or lose at something versus you.

So isn't that nice Anet, your playerbase is half false and ban people when they want if they don't like them!

QFT. i remember snype's wtf post about 'snype has a i d s'. he obviously knew it was offensive because he had to work around the filter to get the word, 'aids' in there. if you know it was offensive, accept it and move on.
Your right, it was my fault for going past the filter and trying to offend peopl...

WAIT

There is no filter for Aids...so how was i supposed to know that it would be offensive? The name of a disease? What if I had AIDS? What would Anet do if I sent them my medical reports saying I had AIDS?

Trying to offend people my ass...

And I would think common sense tells you someone might be offended by it.

They responded and it was in fact my character "Holy McBoobies" that was the cause of the suspension. My 11 month old character that contains a childish word.

I responded to their automated cut & paste responce with the paradox of how a mildly suggestive character name containing a word 10 year olds use vs actual racy imagery of said matter, and where the line of what is "acceptable" is really drawn. To me if their own content sets any kind of example of what is acceptable, I am pretty far behind that line in the safe side.

As a parent, would you rather your kid see a childish character name or actual high quality models rendered, walking around in thongs, underwear, and harem girl outfits? I think I am being much less offensive if we are worried about offending people here. So silly.

Every time I see "Holy McBoobies" I laugh.

I agree fully though Ted. If your character is a female she's going to look like every highly paid "worker" that ever set foot in Las Vegas.

Yes, it is amazing how people can just go and be completelly happy with well ... hardcore ... names they dont understand and yet go on crushade when they see slightest hint of swear word.

You should be offended by theese (very graphical) names (pvp haracters, no longer exists in wild), which are found in wild and there are worse ones you meet daily.

I had a character called Raptor Jesus, but the game wouldn't let me use it, so I just spelled it slightly differently. No problems since!

Wiki'd my ign, Shiishii Momo, which is a combination of 2 japanese origin words, shii is a type of evergreen tree (shiishii is a forest of such trees), and momo is a peach. Together, harmless. But, apparantly, momo is also the name of a horendous disease (see link below). If there is anybody out there with momo's disease, please report me to A-Net and say you are insulted. I hate that name now, I want to rename her. Maybe something like...Commander Donkey Puncher. Unless donkey's play the game too.

Americans are prudes. As a nation, we are possessed by a zealous fervor to repress vice in all of its most innocent forms, so it can mutate and fester into something worse, which must then be cloaked in shame and secrecy.

Ok, well I have been exchanging some responses with their support team. I actually got my suspension lifted so I am somewhat happy about that, however I still have to rename my character, which I am not happy at all about. Their argument? My character name may make some users uncomfortable.

This is what happens when I get off work and have nothing productive to do for the evening and am presented with a stupid situation.

So, the issue is making sure all users are comfortable. eh? Really?

Well then, the following has been judged by ANet and NCSoft as material that will NOT make users uncomfortable.

Nothing bad there. A few thongs, some underwear, assless chaps, almost full frontal nudity, you know, typical video game stuff.

However, the following has been deemed CAPABLE of rendering some users uncomfortable.

** WARNING ** The following contains graphic um, words(?) ** WARNING **
"Holy McBoobies"

Oh n0es, I am now uncomfortable. Digital-Semi-nudity is one thing, but childish words is too much!!!!

/End Rant

Sorry, I could not help myself, I needed an excuse to open up paint.

When it boils down to it, it is their choice on what to regulate. It's obvious that there is some hypocritical things going on with not just this; but, that is their right. I likely wouldn't report any names mentioned here if I saw them, but people have different tolerance levels.

For instance, over the weekend my GL saw someone with a name that was like Wife Beater something or other. Are you offended by that? *turns slightly* Are you? How about you? I am, but I can guarantee you there are people that aren't and couldn't care less. Who is the judge when it comes down to something being offensive or just plain silly? Well, fortunately that's not my, yours, or anyone else's job except Anet.

Personally, I'd rather there be more name regulation, but they offer GREAT freedom. Maybe not as much as some places. I used to play a game that your character was deleted if it did not seem like a name that someone might actually be called in fantasy or otherwise. It wasn't even a roleplaying game! But we lived with it because it was within the digression of the game operators and if they didn't want us to be playing Dragons with the name Willy Whacksalot or whatever other silly, cute, [insert a word for ones OH so genius creativity] name then that is that. You can bitch all ya want, but I have a few walls that may be more interested.

it's easy to think that humor is the same for everyone. not everybody finds these "clever" little names humorous.

I agree with what you are saying, I mean a name like Wife Beater is defiantly a name that could very well offend people, without question. Furthermore, there is no in-game content that is similar or outdoes it. There is no dwarven boss named "Ogrin Wifeslayer" or a Charr Boss "Lugg the Womancrusher". There are no quests that promote domestic violence.

However, there are plenty of boobs-a-floppin' in nearly every screenshot of GW you will ever see. The reason for this is that they have paid programmers and animators to create things like thongs, underwear, lingerie and Harem outfits to pass off as armor. Now suddenly they are worried about making sure their players are comfortable with the level of sexually suggestive material found within the game? And they have decided to pick on a rather harmless character name as their method of doing so? Nope, total BS and I am not going to let them do it quietly, that’s just too huge of a double standard for me to hold my tongue on.

I would also like to add that I do not mind seeing the characters run around half-naked, this is not my issue

My very first character was banned because of a bad name. It was before the option to rename it so that char is gone for good. In case you are wondering, yea my name was quite bad... Beast Iality. It was only a matter of time before it got banned

And on the issue of names being banned because people complain about it. People need to calm down. What gives you the right to ruin someone elses game because you find a persons name (which you will prolly only see one time) offensive. Suck it up and move on. I was pissed when my name got banned, and i know who it was that got it banned too. He said to me, "I was just looking at names in town, and yours was horribly offensive and i just reported you" I never said a word to that person, but yet because he wanted to cry about my name, my 3 month old character got banned.
